Elon Musk Warns of 'Game Over for America' if Democrats Win Midterms

Elon Musk, the largest political donor in U.S. history, has issued a stark warning that a Democratic victory in the upcoming midterm elections could result in a "permanent one-party state" and the "end of democracy in America." Musk expressed his "biggest concern" in a post on his social media platform X, asserting that a Democratic control of the House of Representatives and the Senate could lead to an irreversible liberal supermajority.

Musk outlined three potential scenarios should Democrats gain control of Congress. First, he posited that Democrats would move to grant statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, which he believes would add seats to Congress favoring liberals. Second, Musk suggested Democrats would "open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority" of left-leaning voters. While Democrats have advocated for a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants coupled with border security measures, no major Democratic proposal supports open borders.

Finally, Musk warned that Democrats would seek to expand the size of the Supreme Court to shift the balance of the predominantly conservative bench. He stated that this action would lead to America becoming a "permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word." Musk urged voters to support Republican senators to prevent this outcome, deeming all other issues secondary.

To safeguard against this perceived threat, Musk asserted that Republicans must retain at least 51 Senate seats following the 2028 presidential election. Demonstrating his commitment, Musk has reportedly contributed over $445 million to federal political committees through mid-October, with nearly $300 million donated mostly to Republicans in the 2024 election cycle, bringing his total donations over the past few years to over $735 million. This figure significantly surpasses the approximately $177 million contributed by Democratic donor George Santos during the 2022 midterm cycle.

Musk also contended that Democrats aim to "cement one-party rule forever and make 'democracy' meaningless, as they have done in California." According to data from the prediction market Kalshi, Democrats are heavily favored to win both the House of Representatives and the Senate, with a 92% chance of winning the House and a 70% chance of winning the Senate. Musk's comments come as Republicans are facing challenges across various states. Former President Donald Trump has been conducting rallies to support GOP candidates, focusing on Republican strongholds rather than swing districts. Trump's campaign schedule has experienced some cancellations and rescheduling in the lead-up to the elections.
