Elon Musk Warns Democratic Sweep in 2028 Could Lead to 'End of Democracy'
The billionaire outlined three potential policy shifts he fears could permanently entrench one-party rule.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has issued a stark warning regarding the potential consequences of a Democratic sweep in the 2028 U.S. elections, suggesting it could lead to the "end of democracy" and the establishment of a permanent one-party state. Musk articulated his concerns in an X post, detailing three specific policy actions he believes the Democratic party would pursue to solidify its political power.
Musk's primary fears center on granting statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, which he argues would significantly bolster the Democratic party's representation in the Senate. He also expressed concern over policies that would legalize immigrants currently residing in the country without authorization, suggesting this would create a lasting electoral advantage for Democrats. Finally, Musk warned of the possibility of Democrats expanding the Supreme Court's composition to secure an immediate majority on the nation's highest court.
"This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word," Musk wrote. He emphasized the importance of Republican control of at least 51 Senate seats following the 2028 elections to prevent these outcomes, urging voters to support Republican senators in the upcoming midterms.
Musk's commentary comes as he has reportedly made substantial financial contributions to Republican campaigns. A representative for his America PAC confirmed that the billionaire directed approximately $276 million to Republican super PACs and organizations in the three months preceding the November midterms. This includes $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized Musk's significant political spending, accusing him of attempting to influence the midterm elections in favor of Republicans. She posted on X, stating, "Elon Musk is flooding the midterms with money to help Trump. But even his millions may not be enough to counteract reality."
