Elon Musk Threatens Journalist Kara Swisher With Prison
Tech billionaire Elon Musk responded with a prison threat to journalist Kara Swisher after she suggested he could face legal scrutiny if Democrats gain power.
Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk issued a threat of imprisonment to tech journalist Kara Swisher, a podcast partner of former First Lady Hillary Clinton, via an X post. Musk's reaction came after Swisher suggested on a podcast that investigations into Musk's companies could be initiated if Democrats secure control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.
Swisher, who recently launched the High Stakes podcast with Clinton, appeared on The Bulwark podcast. During the discussion, she posited that Musk might already be incarcerated if Kamala Harris had won the 2024 presidential election, not due to any personal vendetta, but because of "a lot of questions around different companies of his." She further speculated that agencies impacted by cuts Musk made while leading the "Department of Government Efficiency" might begin investigating his various business ventures.
"If Donald Trump loses the Senate, I would be worried if I were him even though how rich he is," Swisher stated. "He has a very big sense of fate. And I think it's coming for him. And real hard."
Musk, responding to an excerpt of Swisher's comments that garnered over 2.4 million views on X, wrote, "Live by the sword, die by the sword. Sounds like Swisher really wants to go to prison." Musk's reply had approximately 574,000 views as of Wednesday night.
The exchange occurred against the backdrop of midterm election projections indicating a potential "blue wave" victory for Democrats, which could grant them control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Top Republicans, however, maintain that current polling is skewed and anticipate a stronger performance for the GOP.
