Tech billionaire Elon Musk is preparing a substantial investment to aid Republican efforts in the upcoming November midterm elections, with his aligned super PAC, America PAC, set to focus on mobilizing GOP voters. A source familiar with the plan confirmed to ABC News that the investment is intended to strengthen Republican turnout.
America PAC's strategy will involve door-knocking, digital advertising, and direct mail campaigns targeting Republican-leaning voters, with a particular emphasis on those with lower historical turnout rates in midterm elections. The exact amount of Musk's investment and the specific states where it will be deployed have not yet been confirmed, but it is anticipated to be a considerable sum.
The New York Times reported that Musk has authorized his super PAC to allocate between $100 million and $120 million for a new field program aimed at supporting Republican candidates in several key Senate races, including those in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and Ohio. Discussions are also reportedly underway regarding potential spending in the North Carolina and Texas Senate races. America PAC is expected to coordinate its efforts with other organizations within the Republican political apparatus.
This initiative comes as Republicans have already amassed a significant war chest. The Republican National Committee reports having nearly $130 million, while MAGA Inc., an organization associated with former President Trump, holds $400 million, bringing their combined total to approximately $530 million.
While Musk has maintained a lower public profile in political spending during the current election cycle, he has previously contributed to campaigns, including the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. He also made a $10 million donation to former Senate candidate Nate Morris before Morris suspended his campaign and accepted an ambassorial appointment from Trump.
During the 2024 election cycle, Musk was a significant financial backer for Trump's reelection campaign, with America PAC reportedly spending over $250 million to support Trump and mobilize voters in battleground states.
America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo stated, "The President’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we’re excited to again be part of the team."
