Elon Musk Pledges SpaceX Shares to Every American Child in 2027
Tech mogul announces unprecedented giveaway on X, hinting at future initiatives.
Elon Musk announced Monday that he will gift one share of SpaceX to every child in America in 2027. The billionaire, who leads both SpaceX and Tesla, shared his intention on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, calling the move "the first of many."
The announcement comes after Musk criticized AI safety company Anthropic's plan to allocate a portion of its shares to a public benefit fund. Musk suggested that distributing shares directly to the public would be a better approach, stating, "This is what I will be doing."
While Musk did not provide details on the logistics of the share distribution, the plan represents a significant potential allocation of wealth. As of Friday's market close, SpaceX stock was valued at $146.03 per share. With an estimated 72 million children under 18 in the United States as of July, the giveaway could amount to approximately $10.5 billion worth of stock.
Musk, often described as the world's first trillionaire, has not yet elaborated on the specific mechanisms for how these shares will be allocated to eligible children.
