New host of "Strictly It Takes Two" Ellie Taylor experienced a difficult start to her summer holiday after her two-year-old son required urgent medical attention. The television personality shared on Instagram that on the first night of their family trip to the Sussex coast, her son's mild cough escalated to "full blown struggling-to-breathe-croup."
Taylor, 42, had to take her son for a late-night visit to Chichester A&E. She described the experience with a barefaced selfie, joking about frequent visits to the emergency room with her child. After her son was prescribed steroids, the family returned to their accommodation by midnight, determined to salvage their beach holiday.
The holiday continued with further challenges. The following day, the family woke to heavy rain, and although her son seemed perkier, an attempt to go out for dinner resulted in him falling on gravel and cutting his leg. Taylor shared an image of herself in a blood-spattered pink t-shirt, stating she acted as a "human plaster" for her son.
She detailed the short, disrupted meal where her son wailed, and she subsequently spilled her drink over her phone, exclaiming loudly. Taylor humorously summarized the holiday as "46% endurance, 29% coughing and 13% saying 'we used to have such a nice life'." She concluded her post with a lighthearted remark about the realities of motherhood during a holiday.
Earlier in August, Taylor was announced as the new host of "Strictly It Takes Two," succeeding Fleur East and Janette Manrara as part of a significant revamp of the BBC show. The news was revealed on BBC Radio 2 during an appearance on Emma Willis's program. Taylor, who previously competed on "Strictly Come Dancing" in 2022, expressed her excitement about returning to the "Strictly" universe in her new role.
She stated her intention to bring "Strictly" fans all the necessary details and gossip from the ballroom. The "Strictly It Takes Two" role comes as part of a larger shakeup for the 2026 series, which also sees main presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman replaced by Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and professional dancer Johannes Radebe, alongside changes to the professional dancer lineup.
