Actress Ellen Burstyn, a celebrated figure in horror cinema and a recipient of the Triple Crown of Acting, made a notable return to the spotlight at the Venice Film Festival. On Monday, the 93-year-old star was honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

Burstyn, known for her iconic role as Chris MacNeil in the 1973 horror classic "The Exorcist," appeared at the festival before accepting the accolade. She was seen in a green watercolor suit and later donned a vibrant orange ensemble for her acceptance speech.

In her emotional speech, Burstyn expressed her gratitude, stating, "You’re making me cry! You’re overwhelming me, you know! I don’t know how to recover from that generous greeting." She reflected on the significance of the award at her age, noting, "At 93, it means you have a fair amount of lifetime to look back on. I thought, maybe it’s not just a record of what you’ve accomplished, but what you’ve learned."

Burstyn holds the distinction of achieving the Triple Crown of acting, which includes an Oscar, a Tony Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Martin Scorsese's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" in 1974. Her career spans a wide range of acclaimed films, including "Requiem For A Dream" (2000), "Interstellar" (2014), and "Pieces Of A Woman" (2020). She also reprised her role as Chris MacNeil in the 2023 sequel, "The Exorcist: Believer."

The Venice Film Festival also served as the premiere for a new short film, "Flesh Impact," in which Burstyn portrays a 100-year-old Marilyn Monroe. The project, written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, also features Dakota Johnson as a younger Monroe. The film is described as a tribute to the iconic actress, released on what would have been Monroe's 100th birthday.

"The Exorcist," directed by William Friedkin, remains a landmark in horror cinema. The production of the 1973 film was reportedly fraught with challenges, including a fire that destroyed part of the set and injuries sustained by lead actresses Linda Blair and Burstyn.
