Elle Chapman Contrasts Directorial Styles of Taylor Sheridan and Ryan Murphy
The 'The Madison' actress shares her experiences working with the two prolific showrunners, noting differences in their creative approaches.
Elle Chapman, star of the series "The Madison," has drawn a comparison between the working environments on Taylor Sheridan's shows and Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story." Chapman, who plays Paige McIntosh, a socialite adapting to life in Montana, noted that Sheridan is very specific about his vision.
"I think Taylor is a little more strict on… he knows what he wants," Chapman told Page Six. This contrasts with her experience on "American Horror Story," where she plays Ashley in the upcoming 13th season. On the FX series, Chapman found the atmosphere more relaxed and collaborative.
"On 'AHS,' I really got to lean into humor," Chapman explained. "I tap into [humor] a little bit on 'The Madison,' but on this one I really got to play, and the writers were on set, and they let me bring my own direction, and it’s very collaborative."
Despite the differences, Chapman expressed gratitude for both opportunities, stating that she learned a great deal on "The Madison" due to its audience and crew. She also highlighted a shared trait between Sheridan and Murphy: both tend to work with the same crews across their projects, fostering a sense of family among the production teams.
Chapman described her role in "American Horror Story" as a "dream come true," expressing honor at joining the long-running franchise and thanking Ryan Murphy for the chance to play a character unlike any she has portrayed before. The premiere of "American Horror Story: 13" was attended by numerous other cast members and notable figures, including Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Paul Anthony Kelly, Billie Lourd, and Leslie Grossman.
