Ella Langley Addresses Critics During Concert After Breaking Record
Country music singer Ella Langley addressed negative comments about her appearance and artistry during a recent concert, just days after her song "Choosin' Texas" surpassed Mariah Carey's record for the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Country music artist Ella Langley recently addressed critics during a concert in Columbus, Ohio, speaking out against the negative comments she has faced.
"I don't think I've ever had more opinions on myself in my life than I have in this last year," Langley told the crowd, according to a video shared on TikTok. The 27-year-old singer elaborated that she has been criticized for "the way I look, the way I speak, the way I dress, the way I move, the way I sing [and] the way I write."
Langley confessed that the constant criticism initially bothered her. "I was like, ‘What am I going to do about this? If this is what I’m signing up to do, I don’t know about this. I signed up to sing music and I love to do what I do, but if this is what it’s going to be the whole entire time, I mean s–t, I don’t know if I’m strong enough for this,'" she admitted onstage. She emphasized that the person being criticized is the same one who propelled her to her current success.
"The girl that they’re kind of picking on is the girl that got me where I’m sitting here today," Langley stated. "That’s the girl that rode in a 15-passenger van night after night after night. She rode in a Honda Accord night after night after night, chased her dream, living on bar food, living on tip jar money."
Langley concluded her remarks by asserting her pride in her past self. "I didn’t have anything but a dream and the ability to get up and do it every single day," she said. "So I’m going to tell you right now. I am proud of that girl that everybody seems to be picking on all the time."
This statement comes shortly after Langley's song "Choosin' Texas" achieved a significant milestone, becoming the longest-running No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. The track surpassed Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which had held the record with 22 weeks at the top of the chart.
Following this achievement, Langley expressed her disbelief and gratitude in a social media video. "Thank you so much. Thank you for loving this song. For listening to it. I don’t even know what to say at this point," she shared in a September 22 Instagram video. "I’m running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel, so I will just let my dog in the background show you his excitement."
Mariah Carey, 57, has not publicly commented on Langley's record-breaking achievement.
