Elizabeth Holmes Writes Cryptic Prison Post: 'The Truth Will Set You Free'
The Theranos founder, nearing a halfway house transition, reiterated her innocence on social media.
Elizabeth Holmes, the former CEO of the defunct blood-testing startup Theranos, has posted a message from prison asserting her innocence and proclaiming, “The truth will set you free.” The message, signed with her initials "EAH," marks the first time Holmes has directly signed off on a social media post since her wire fraud conviction in November 2022.
Holmes, who has been incarcerated for what she described as "1,216 endless days and nights," stated that she has been "silenced for a long time" and is now "fighting to prove my innocence and come home to my babies and the love of my life." She indicated that her loved ones have been managing her X account during her imprisonment, specifically mentioning her husband, Billy Evans, as someone who "fights fiercely for me and our family."
She expressed gratitude to her supporters who have sent her letters, stating that these messages "constantly ignite the fire in my heart." She concluded her post with the biblical quote, "The truth will set you free. John 8:32. EAH."
Accompanying the message was a selfie of Holmes with Evans, taken before her incarceration. In the photo, Holmes is seen resting her head on Evans' shoulder, wearing casual attire and a baseball cap.
Holmes is currently held at the Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. She is scheduled to move to the Austin Transitional Center, a privately-owned correctional facility in Del Valle, Texas, on August 23, 2027. This facility operates as a residential reentry center, providing supervised housing and assistance with employment, job placement, and financial management for individuals nearing release.
Holmes was convicted in 2022 on four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy for defrauding investors by falsely claiming Theranos' technology could perform numerous medical tests on a single drop of blood. She was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison and ordered to pay $452 million in restitution. Despite her conviction, Holmes has maintained her innocence, stating in a February 2025 interview with People that she refused to plead guilty to crimes she did not commit.
Her prison sentence is eligible for completion on December 30, 2031, after a reduction of one year. A commutation petition filed by Holmes with the Trump Administration is reportedly still pending.
A documentary film titled "You Can See Everything," which chronicles Holmes' life in the month leading up to her imprisonment, is set to be released on October 16. The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, was reportedly filmed in secret and had its first screening at the Telluride Film Festival.
