Elizabeth Holmes to Transfer to Texas Halfway House Next August
The Theranos founder, serving an 11-year sentence for fraud, has been approved for a community corrections center in Austin.
Disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is slated to transfer from federal prison to a halfway house in Texas next August, according to a report from ABC News, which obtained an update from the Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System.
Holmes, 42, has been approved for a spot at the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, and is scheduled to move on August 23, 2027. She has been incarcerated at the Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas since May 2023.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) declined to confirm the transfer, stating that it does not discuss individual conditions of confinement or release plans. However, the BOP noted that decisions on facility designations consider factors such as the required level of security, medical needs, safety considerations, and proximity to the individual’s release residence.
Residential reentry centers, commonly known as halfway houses, provide a supervised environment for inmates nearing release, offering assistance with employment counseling, job placement, and financial management. Holmes will serve the remainder of her sentence at the Austin Transitional Center, a privately-owned facility with 460 beds. Following her release from the halfway house, she will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office in Austin.
Holmes is serving an 11-year sentence for defrauding investors at Theranos, the blood-testing company she founded. She was convicted in 2022 on four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy. Her sentence was reduced by 12 months in March due to changes in federal guidelines for first-time, non-violent offenders. A federal court judge approved this reduction.
Holmes recently gained renewed public attention with the release of a trailer for a documentary about her life, titled “You Can See Everything,” scheduled for release on October 16. The trailer features Holmes stating, “I’m not deceiving you,” and includes scenes of the documentary's co-director, Nathan Fielder, making Holmes cry and questioning her husband about whether she had been scamming him.
