Convicted Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes has issued a cryptic threat from federal prison, posting on her X account that she would "burn bridges" if necessary to protect her child. The message was accompanied by an AI-generated image of a woman resembling Holmes holding a match with a flaming bridge in the background.
"I don’t get angry often. Tonight, I am," the post began. "People put my child’s health and safety at risk. They knowingly and consciously chose this path. If protecting my child means burning bridges, I’ll burn them to light the way. Time to sleep. I’ll grab the match tomorrow."
Holmes, the founder of the defunct blood-testing startup Theranos, was convicted in 2022 on four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy for defrauding investors. She is currently serving an 11-year sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas.
Holmes has two children with her husband, Billy Evans: a son born in 2018 and a daughter born in February 2023, shortly before Holmes began her prison sentence. Her X account, managed by others as she is incarcerated, has been active since September 2025, promoting her upcoming documentary "You Can See Everything," which chronicles her rise and fall.
Prosecutors alleged that Holmes misled investors between 2010 and 2015 by claiming Theranos technology could detect numerous diseases from a single drop of blood. Her early release date is set for December 30, 2031.
It remains unclear what prompted the recent threatening post. When a social media user asked if it was a threat, Holmes reportedly replied, "It's a promise."
