Elizabeth Holmes' Husband Questioned Her Motives in New Documentary Trailer
Billy Evans admits he was concerned his wife, the Theranos founder, might be after his family's wealth.
In a preview for the upcoming documentary "You Can See Everything," Billy Evans, the husband of disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, reveals his past suspicions about her intentions.
Directed by Nathan Fielder, the documentary captures 34 days Holmes spent with her husband before beginning her 11-year prison sentence for fraud. Holmes was convicted in 2022 after her biotech company, Theranos, misled investors about its revolutionary blood-testing technology. Theranos had claimed it could perform numerous tests using a single drop of blood, a capability that ultimately proved to be false and led to the company's downfall.
The trailer shows Evans discussing his relationship with Holmes, whom he met in 2017, two years after The Wall Street Journal exposed the Theranos fraud. The couple has two young children together. Evans stated that he believed he fell in love with Holmes before learning about the extent of her fraudulent activities.
When Fielder pressed Evans on whether he was ever concerned that Holmes might be pursuing him for his family's substantial wealth, Evans responded with a question of his own: "100%, but what was she going to gain from me?" He later added, "There's a lot of different levels of wealth," before the clip transitioned.
Despite his initial admission, Evans told Fielder in a separate moment that he had never suspected Holmes of lying to him directly. The trailer also includes intimate scenes of the couple, showing them jogging on a beach, holding hands in their kitchen, and interacting with one of their children in a playroom. One poignant shot is filmed through the bars of a crib, casting a grid-like shadow over Holmes, a visual metaphor for her impending incarceration.
The documentary appears to explore the complexities of their relationship as Holmes prepares to serve her sentence. "I still have this weird feeling that there are some things I'm not seeing," Fielder tells Holmes directly in the trailer. Holmes's response is a direct gaze into the camera, stating, "I don't have anything to hide."
Holmes is currently serving her sentence at a minimum-security prison in Bryan, Texas. Evans remains in San Diego with their two children.
