Among those newly charged are a 40-year-old woman from Heatley, a 36-year-old woman from Cranbrook, a 32-year-old woman from Kirwan, a 30-year-old man from Heatley, and a 24-year-old man from Heatley. The 17-year-old victim was found around 6:35 a.m. on July 18 with significant injuries that required surgical intervention. He was taken to Townsville University Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. Police indicated that some of the accused were known to the victim and described the attack as an "orchestrated" event by a group of individuals, rather than a random act.
