Elderly Woman Found Dead in Liverpool Park Lacked Teeth, Malnourished
Merseyside Police continue to appeal for identification of the woman, believed to be in her 70s, whose remains were discovered in a bin bag in Stanley Park.
An elderly woman found dead in a bin bag in Stanley Park, Liverpool, was malnourished and had no teeth, police have revealed. Authorities were alerted to the discovery on Friday, August 28, around 5:25 p.m. after a member of the public found a black bin bag concealed in bushes within the park's walled garden.
Merseyside Police responded and discovered the woman's body, who was wearing a pink Nike T-shirt. It is believed her remains had been in the location since July. Despite extensive public appeals and efforts to identify the woman, who is thought to be around 70 years old, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, and of slight build, she remains unidentified.
A DNA profile generated from forensic testing did not yield any matches on the national database. The absence of teeth prevented any comparison with dental records.
Investigations have confirmed the woman suffered from osteoporosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and arthritis in her hands. Police also stated she was malnourished, though it has not yet been determined if this was a result of her age or neglect.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald emphasized that referencing the woman's medical conditions could help jog someone's memory. He noted that while she is believed to be around 70, the possibility of her being slightly younger or older has not been ruled out.
Merseyside Police have spoken to residents in nearly 900 nearby properties and have eliminated 126 potential individuals from their inquiries after concerns were raised about people matching the woman's description. The force is urging anyone who recognizes the description or has any information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
