An elderly couple was found deceased in their Ventura County home on September 21. Authorities identified the victims as Aleksander Tukalski, 89, and Kazia Berlach Tukalska, 86.
Family members requested a wellness check after not hearing from the couple for some time. Deputies arrived at the Lucas Court residence in Newbury Park and discovered both individuals deceased. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for the property.
A firearm was found at the scene, but investigators have not yet confirmed if it is connected to the deaths. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department released a statement on Facebook indicating the incident may be a murder-suicide.
Investigators from the Sheriff's Department's crime unit spent several hours at the residence. The Ventura County Medical Examiner also responded to determine the cause of death.
Officials believe the incident is isolated and poses no threat to the public, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Neighbors have shared memories of the couple, describing them as kind and active. One neighbor mentioned that the couple's home had previously burned down a few months prior, and she assumed they were renting the current property.
