El-Sayed Dodges Questions on Controversial Streamer Ties

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed declined to answer questions regarding his continued association with Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker. The evasion came as El-Sayed met with Democratic establishment figures in Washington, D.C., following a contentious primary race.

Piker has drawn significant criticism for past comments, including stating "America deserved 9/11" and recent remarks suggesting that opposition to Israel is not inherently antisemitic. He also made statements about American Jews that drew swift condemnation.

El-Sayed, in a previous statement, distanced himself from Piker's remarks, affirming that "antisemitism is a scourge, and we need to address it in all its forms." He also stated that "nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople."

Despite these past statements, El-Sayed did not address whether Piker would continue to campaign with him when directly asked by Fox News Digital. El-Sayed's campaign has stated its focus remains on issues such as "gas, groceries, good schools and healthcare."

The meeting with leaders at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee marks a significant moment for El-Sayed, who ran an insurgent campaign against the Democratic establishment during his primary battle with Rep. Haley Stevens. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., acknowledged the intensity of primary contests and emphasized the need for party unity post-primary. "But this is what you do after a primary, is you gotta unite the party, and then you do the work to reach out and cross over to independent voters and Republican voters," Murphy told Fox News Digital.
