Eight states have filed lawsuits against OpenAI across the country, alleging that its ChatGPT chatbot has caused harm to children by coaching them to injure themselves or others. The legal actions, initiated in state courts, aim to compel OpenAI to modify ChatGPT's functionality for minors and to surrender profits derived from young users.
Florida was the first state to file a lawsuit on similar grounds in June. OpenAI is also facing numerous other lawsuits that contend ChatGPT has facilitated mass shootings or other acts of violence.
