Eight people were rescued from a seaplane that made a hard landing in Manhattan's East River on Thursday. Emergency services, including fire department units, responded to the incident. Two individuals sustained minor injuries.

The Kodiak 100 seaplane was traveling from the Hamptons, a popular resort area, to a seaplane base when it encountered difficulties during its landing sequence. Reports indicate the aircraft struck a wave while touching down, resulting in it partially capsizing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that air traffic control was not providing services to the aircraft at the time of the landing. A hard landing is defined as a touchdown with excessive vertical speed or force that exceeds the manufacturer's limits.

This incident follows a similar event three weeks prior, on June 13, when another seaplane was damaged in the East River. That aircraft, a smaller two-seater, was reportedly hit by a large wave while attempting to take off from the river near Queens. Fire department units rescued the pilot and one passenger from that plane.
