Eight Relatives Charged in Kentucky Child Abuse Case

Eight family members in Kentucky have been arrested and charged with severe child abuse, including incest, rape, and human trafficking, following the rescue of seven children from a home described as "deplorable" and filled with feces.

The children, ranging in age from 17 years old to a 1-year-old infant, were found in "very filthy and deplorable" conditions when Richmond police executed a search warrant on Thursday. Inside the home, authorities discovered 15 people, along with 10 dogs and a cat. Court documents noted the presence of feces on floors and stairs and an overwhelming smell of urine.

The arrested adults, aged from 21 to 63, face various charges. Green Schindler, 63, is charged with human trafficking and first-degree rape and sodomy. He is also among four individuals charged with incest, alongside twin brothers Mark and Matthew Brumbaugh, both 30, and Sarah Carter, 28, who faces an additional charge of distribution of obscene matter. Richard Carter, 45, is charged with human trafficking and first-degree rape.

Johnna Carter, 21, Christine Carter, 41, and Ishmeal Thornsberry, 21, were charged with various forms of abuse and neglect, primarily involving children under 13. Officials have not disclosed the specific familial relationships between the suspects or their exact relation to the children, who have all been placed with Social Services.

The Richmond Police Department stated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues and encouraged community members to report any relevant information.
