Eight family members, including six children, were found dead in a house fire in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, authorities announced Friday. The blaze, which prompted law enforcement to label the incident “suspicious,” is currently under investigation.
Calls reporting white smoke emanating from the home were received around noon on Friday. First responders arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames, subsequently discovering the bodies of the eight unidentified family members. Firefighters had been in the vicinity earlier that morning, between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., following reports of a smoke smell, but were unable to pinpoint the source at that time.
The home where the fire occurred is located on Riverside Trail. The neighborhood is described as an affluent area with large residences.
Detectives and arson investigators remained at the scene Friday evening. Fire officials indicated that further information would be released as it becomes available. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has not yet provided a comment.
