Authorities have identified the two adults and six children found dead inside a burning home in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, as the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office investigates the incident as a murder-suicide.

Officials responded to reports of smoke coming from a residence on Riverside Trail on Friday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters were unable to locate a fire initially. Later that morning, officials returned to the scene after receiving new reports of white smoke emanating from the home. Inside, they discovered eight deceased individuals, all of whom had sustained gunshot wounds.

The deceased adults have been identified as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. The children include four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two 11-year-old girls. Two of the children were adopted. The family pets also perished in the fire and smoke.

According to the sheriff's office, preliminary investigations suggest that Kristopher Karolkiewicz is the suspected perpetrator of the murder-suicide. Authorities believe he intentionally set the fire in multiple locations throughout the house after the killings. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators.

Amanda Karolkiewicz and her two adopted daughters had recently returned from a trip to China in mid-July. Her stepfather, Steve Lawwill, expressed his grief, stating that the family is "just so shattered."

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office has stated that there are no additional suspects in the case.
