Eight Critically Endangered Orangutans Released Back into the Wild in Borneo

Eight orangutans have been returned to their natural habitat in Borneo following their rescue from severe wildfires. The group, comprising three mothers, their three offspring, and two adult males, was released into a reserve on the western side of the island on Friday.

Indonesian wildlife authorities had previously rescued 46 of the critically endangered apes. These rescues occurred before the intense fires, which ravaged their habitat during August and September, destroyed their homes. The released orangutans are now back in the wild after this period of displacement and care.
