Edu, the global head of football at Nottingham Forest, has left the club after just over a year. His exit, which was anticipated, comes after he had not attended a game since February. Edu's tenure was marked by significant upheaval, including the sacking of four managers during the last season. His position reportedly came under scrutiny following a disagreement with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who alluded to internal discord and a shift in his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Edu, who was appointed in July 2025, also oversaw football operations for Greek side Olympiacos and Portuguese club Rio Ave, both of which are owned by Marinakis. Prior to his role at Forest, Edu spent six years at Arsenal. As a player, he won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with the Gunners. During his time at Arsenal, he was instrumental in bringing Mikel Arteta to the club, who led Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.

Nottingham Forest is not expected to appoint a replacement for Edu. His responsibilities will be assumed by George Syrianos, the club's chief football officer. Edu's departure follows the recent appointment of Theodore Giannikos, former vice-president of Olympiacos, as chief executive last week. Giannikos replaced Lina Souloukou, who departed her role at the City Ground at the end of the previous season.
