Edson Alvarez Accused of Selling Fake COVID-19 Certificates

West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez and his former father-in-law have been accused of selling false COVID-19 vaccination certificates during the pandemic. This allegation comes from the same film producer who recently accused the footballer of being linked to a kidnapping in Mexico.

Filmmaker Juan Jose Lopez Ordonez reportedly claimed in a press conference on Thursday that Alvarez, his former father-in-law Jonathan Toache Bedolla, and a doctor allegedly operated a network selling fake vaccination certificates. According to Mexican outlet El Financiero, these fraudulent documents included stamps, signatures, and QR codes and were sold for upwards of $500 each.

Ordonez stated that the scheme enabled high-profile individuals to travel abroad while circumventing pandemic restrictions. He asserted that he could no longer remain silent about the operation, despite the moral burden and potential repercussions.

A list of public figures purportedly obtained certificates through this scheme, including fashion model Montserrat Oliver, actress Yolanda Andrade, musician Jay de la Cueva, and actor Alfredo Adame. These individuals allegedly sought false certificates from Alvarez and Bedolla to avoid vaccination.

Falsifying public health documents is a federal crime in Mexico, and authorities may initiate an investigation. Daily Mail Sport has reached out to Alvarez for comment on the latest allegation. Last month, Alvarez categorically rejected the kidnapping accusation, stating he had no association with such events. West Ham has not commented on the allegations.

Alvarez has not been included in any Championship matchday squads this season, having failed to secure a transfer away from the club this past summer.
