Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James announced on Monday that his son, Edgerrin Jr., also known as Jizzle, is currently facing challenges with substance abuse. Jizzle, 21, is a college basketball player.
"Jizzle is dealing with substance abuse and is NOT in the right state of mind right now," James wrote on his Instagram Story. He urged those who encounter his son to offer support without providing material possessions. "If you see him, show him LOVE-but DO NOT give him money, valuables, or anything material." James emphasized that such actions would not be helpful and added, "You’re not helping him by feeding the problem. He wants/needs for NOTHING…"
James asked for patience and encouraged expressions of affection. "Give him a hug. Give him encouragement. Give him love. THAT’S IT… Be patient with him. We’re fighting for him, not against him."
Jizzle James has played for the University of Cincinnati for the past three seasons. Following the firing of coach Miller from Cincinnati, Jizzle transferred to Charlotte to join Miller, but he is not currently listed on the 49ers' roster.
Edgerrin James, 48, is one of six children and had four with his longtime girlfriend Andia, who passed away from leukemia in 2009 at age 30. James had a distinguished NFL career, earning four Pro Bowl selections with the Indianapolis Colts. He was selected fourth overall in the 1999 NFL Draft and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. During his career, James accumulated 12,246 rushing yards and 80 touchdowns, in addition to 852 yards and six touchdowns in 13 playoff games. He also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks before retiring in 2009.
