Pro Football Hall of Famer Edgerrin James has publicly addressed his son Jizzle James' battle with substance abuse, sharing a plea on social media for support while urging others not to provide financial or material assistance.

"Jizzle is dealing with substance abuse and is NOT in the right state of mind right now," James wrote in an Instagram Story post Tuesday. He asked anyone who encounters his 21-year-old son to offer a hug and encouragement but to refrain from giving him money or valuables. James emphasized that his son’s needs are being met and stated that providing material items would not be helpful.

James’ son, a former college basketball player, recently left the Charlotte basketball program due to unspecified personal issues. Prior to joining Charlotte, Jizzle James spent three seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats. His tenure with Cincinnati included a dismissal from the program last summer, followed by reinstatement midway through the season. During his final season with Cincinnati, he appeared in 23 games, averaging 10.9 points and 2.1 assists per game. His overall career average with Cincinnati was 10.8 points per game.

Following his departure from Charlotte, Jizzle James posted on social media hinting at a potential reunion with Cincinnati. However, the university reportedly responded with a cease-and-desist letter, prohibiting him from using the university's name, logos, uniforms, or other team-related likenesses for commercial promotion, as he was no longer a member of the team.

James responded to the letter via Instagram, stating, "I have my own merch I made. I don’t need y’all jerseys."
