Eden Sassoon Discusses Ageing, Relapse, and Reinvention After Plastic Surgery
The 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' alum opens up about her latest cosmetic procedure, her journey with sobriety, and finding a new sense of self.
Eden Sassoon, 53, a former cast member of 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,' has undergone an upper blepharoplasty earlier this year, citing a desire to address the heaviness of her eyelids. Sassoon, daughter of the late legendary hairstylist Vidal Sassoon, shared that the decision was driven by a feeling that her eyelids were no longer making her feel like herself.
"A couple of months ago I woke up, looked in the mirror and thought, something has to change," Sassoon told the Daily Mail. "I realized it was my eyelids. They felt heavy, and I just didn't feel like myself when I looked in the mirror."
She opted for the procedure after seeing positive results from a friend who had visited Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Steve Kim. Within days of her consultation, Sassoon underwent the surgery.
"It was honestly one of the easiest things I've ever done, and I'm so happy with the result," she stated. "People tell me I look refreshed, which is lovely, but the biggest difference for me is that I don't feel that heaviness over my eyes anymore."
This is not Sassoon's first experience with cosmetic surgery. She previously had her lower eyelids addressed at age 36 due to persistent puffiness. She later learned that this tendency for under-eye fat pads could be hereditary, a fact that prompted a humorous revelation from her father, Vidal Sassoon, who admitted to having had his eyes done three times.
Sassoon also underwent rhinoplasty and had breast implants in the past. However, after multiple implant surgeries and ongoing discomfort, she decided to have them removed.
"I kept thinking that maybe changing the implants would solve how I was feeling," she explained. "Eventually I reached a point where I just wanted them out. My breasts are smaller now, and I'm completely comfortable with that. For me, it became about listening to my body and doing what felt right for me."
In 2019, she had an AuraLyft facelift, which she said boosted her confidence at the time. Today, however, her perspective on beauty has evolved beyond procedures.
Sassoon has also been candid about her struggles with alcoholism and her recovery. After maintaining sobriety for nine and a half years, she experienced a relapse in April 2023 in Las Vegas. She credits her knowledge of 12-step programs for enabling her to seek help effectively this time.
Her relationship with beauty and wellness was significantly shaped by her father, Vidal Sassoon, who revolutionized hairstyling in the 1960s. "I grew up in a world where looking good mattered," Sassoon said. "My dad was always striving, creating, and reinventing himself. That was the environment I grew up in, so of course it shaped me. But as I've gotten older, I understand that feeling good is about so much more than what you see in the mirror."
She also mentioned her mother, Beverly, who is also in recovery and is currently writing a memoir at age 80.
Sassoon's current focus on wellness encompasses the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Having previously owned Pilates studios, she now prioritizes mobility, breath, and recovery over intense physical exertion.
Her approach to nutrition involves ensuring adequate protein intake and enjoying fruit, viewing health as a support for life rather than a pursuit of perfection.
"For me, getting older isn't about trying to turn back time," she stated. "I want to feel good when I look in the mirror, absolutely. But more importantly I want to feel strong, healthy and connected to myself. I'm not trying to fix myself. I'm taking care of myself."
Following her recent eye surgery, Sassoon took a trip to Costa Rica to focus on rest and introspection. "I went away and sat still. I breathed. I stopped pushing. I wanted to get my mind back into the right place. When I came home, I felt like, okay, this is a new reset."
She hinted at a potential new chapter that might involve her brother Elan and a return to the industry that defined her family, albeit in her own distinctive way. "My dad was always reinventing himself," she said. "I think that's something I inherited from him. I'm excited about where I am now, and I want to keep evolving, feeling good and enjoying every chapter. So don't be surprised if what comes next brings me back to my roots — but in my own way."
