Ed Sheeran Cancels Concerts Amid Nor'easter Threat
The pop star's performances in Foxborough, Massachusetts, were called off due to severe weather warnings.
Ed Sheeran's scheduled concerts in Foxborough, Massachusetts, for Friday and Saturday have been canceled due to an approaching nor'easter, according to concert promoter Messina Touring. The decision was made in consultation with local officials, prioritizing the safety of fans and staff.
The storm is anticipated to bring high winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rain to much of the East Coast. The National Weather Service predicted wind gusts of up to 60-65 mph on Cape Cod and potentially 50-55 mph around Boston.
This marks another disruption to Sheeran's Loop Tour. Previously, Macklemore was removed from the lineup for making pro-Palestinian comments during a Sept. 5 show. Supporting acts also withdrew in solidarity.
Sheeran has stated his desire for his music and shows to promote unity and humanity, not politics. However, he has acknowledged the attacks in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, as horrific and described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic and unjustifiable.
The decision to remove Macklemore was reportedly urged by Robert Kraft, owner of the NFL's New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, citing Macklemore's comments and a history of antisemitic rhetoric. Sheeran has maintained he was not responsible for Macklemore's removal, attributing it to the tour promoter.
Both Macklemore and a spokesperson for Kraft have indicated that Sheeran and Kraft have agreed to donate $2 million each to support Palestinian relief efforts, though the specific recipients have not yet been detailed. Macklemore had pledged $1 million himself.
As of last year, Ed Sheeran was recognized as the third highest-earning concert act of the millennium, according to industry magazine Pollstar.
