The singer reportedly broke down in tears, stating that his family has "abandoned" him and he has "found out who his friends are," acknowledging he has made "mistakes" in handling recent events.
The controversy began when rapper Macklemore was removed from Sheeran's tour lineup. Macklemore had publicly voiced support for Gaza and the Palestinian people. Robert Kraft, a Jewish stadium owner, accused the rapper of hate speech after his call for a "free Palestine" and subsequently banned him from performing at his Gillette Stadium near Boston.
Sheeran, who has previously expressed a desire to avoid being an "activist musician," found himself embroiled in the situation. The controversy led to threats of a boycott, prompting Sheeran to issue an apology and backtrack on his earlier stance. He described the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic and unjustifiable" and condemned Hamas's October 7 attacks as "horrific."
