Ed Sheeran's team is implementing enhanced security measures for his upcoming concert in Philadelphia, with police confirming a "sizable" presence to ensure safety. This comes days after rapper Macklemore was removed from the tour for his "Free Palestine" speech and five other supporting acts resigned in solidarity.

The Philadelphia Police Department is coordinating with Sheeran's team to implement appropriate measures for the concert at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday. A spokesperson for the department stated that officers will be positioned both inside and outside the stadium, and attendees will undergo metal detection screening and potential pat-downs.

While no specific threats against Sheeran have been reported, law enforcement agencies indicated they are monitoring the situation and will adjust safety protocols as needed. The increased security is a direct response to the controversy ignited by Macklemore's pro-Palestinian statements during his opening sets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on September 4 and 5.

Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, faced backlash and a boycott petition after chanting "Free Palestine" and delivering a politically charged speech. He stated that the people of Gaza and the West Bank have not been forgotten and that every human being deserves freedom and peace. Images of the devastation in Gaza were projected during his performance of the song "Hind's Hall."

Following Macklemore's dismissal, a wave of supporting artists, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga, announced their departure from Sheeran's LOOP Tour. The controversy has also coincided with a notable decline in ticket prices for Sheeran's shows.

According to TicketData, resale ticket prices for Sheeran's Philadelphia concert have dropped 25 percent on secondary platforms since Macklemore's exit. A representative from TicketData noted that while some price softening before a show is typical, the recent decline is "pushing the edge of what you'd normally expect."

Some fans and organizations have criticized Macklemore's actions, with the Israeli-American Council initiating a petition for his removal, arguing that a concert platform should not be used for one-sided political agendas. Singer Pink also shared a post from StopAntisemitism that condemned Macklemore's speech as "anti-Israel propaganda." Macklemore has a history of voicing support for Palestinians and has previously criticized Israel's actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
