Sheeran, who was performing in Philadelphia, stated that he had always aimed to keep his music and shows focused on unity rather than division. However, he explained, "this is a humanitarian issue, and I cannot hide how I feel about it anymore."
The singer's backing band and opening acts reportedly boycotted the event in solidarity, leaving Sheeran to address the Philadelphia crowd alone.
Pro-Palestinian protesters had gathered near the stadium earlier in the month to express their support for Macklemore.
