Ed Sheeran broke his silence on the Israel-Palestine conflict during a concert in Philadelphia on Saturday, stating that while the events at the Nova music festival on October 7 were horrific, the ongoing situation in Gaza is "catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate."
Sheeran, 35, returned to the stage at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since his opening acts withdrew from his Loop Tour in solidarity with Macklemore, who was removed from the tour following his "Free Palestine" comments.
"My heart has been broken by the scale of devastation and loss of civilians’ lives, of children’s lives, and the systemic injustice we’re seeing unfold in the West Bank cannot be overlooked," Sheeran told the audience in remarks captured by concertgoers and shared online. He also stated his intention to "continue my own tour."
The concert itself was preceded by pro-Palestine protestors gathering outside the venue.
Sheeran's comments mark a significant moment for the artist, who has faced pressure to address the conflict. The withdrawal of his opening acts followed a broader trend of artists taking stances on the ongoing situation.
