Ed Harris is slated to return for the second season of the Paramount+ series "Dutton Ranch," with production expected to begin on January 15. Sources indicate Harris has been kept informed as the new season is written.
Earlier, Harris, 75, expressed dissatisfaction with his experience during the filming of the show's first season, even going so far as to threaten to leave the production. He told Variety that midway through the first season, he wanted to be "taken the f–k out of here" because he felt his character, veterinarian Everett McKinney, was not being utilized effectively.
Harris stated that he felt "a little bit misled" about the role, as he was initially led to believe he would be one of the four main characters and was given a detailed overview of his character's arc. He described feeling "underused and inconsequential" during the season.
Adding to his frustration, Harris recalled a scene where he was meant to sing but was later informed it was cut. He claimed this decision, along with the feeling of being underutilized, was grounds for him to consider voiding his contract. "I [was like], ‘F–k you people,'" he told the outlet.
Despite these concerns, Harris ultimately found the first season to be "pretty good" upon watching it and felt his contributions were important to the story, even if the actual filming experience did not always reflect that.
"Dutton Ranch" premiered on May 15 on Paramount+ and concluded its first season on July 3. The streamer renewed the series for a second season on June 24, noting its success as the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history.
