Ed Harris, who stars as Everett McKinney in the Taylor Sheridan series "Dutton Ranch," stated that he was prepared to leave the production early on due to feeling misled about the scope of his role. Harris shared in an interview with Variety that he was initially told he would be one of the four main characters, and that his character's storyline would be central to the season.
"Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case," Harris told Variety.
While Harris acknowledged that his character, a veterinarian and war veteran, is "relatively important to the story," he felt that the execution of his role did not align with the initial discussions. He described the experience as "so bad" that he considered leaving the show.
Despite his initial dissatisfaction, Harris teased that his role is expected to expand in the second season, with "a little bit more to do."
