EBay has agreed to pay nearly $56 million to a couple who filed a lawsuit alleging the company orchestrated a campaign to emotionally and psychologically torture them in order to stifle their reporting on the e-commerce giant.
David and Ina Steiner filed the lawsuit detailing the alleged harassment campaign. The settlement amount was not immediately available in court documents, but reports indicated the figure was close to $56 million.
An EBay spokesperson stated that the company was pleased to have resolved the matter. The company previously acknowledged its involvement in the harassment. In 2020, a former EBay executive was sentenced to prison for his role in the scheme, and several other former employees also faced charges. The company has cooperated with law enforcement in the investigation.
