EastEnders Actor Tony Discipline Hints at Marriage to Co-Star Shona McGarty
Discipline, who previously played Tyler Moon opposite McGarty's Whitney Dean, calls the actress 'the love of my life' and expresses a desire for marriage.
Tony Discipline, a former actor on the British soap opera EastEnders, has revealed his intentions to marry his girlfriend and former co-star Shona McGarty. Discipline, 37, spoke about his relationship with McGarty, 34, at a recent West End event, referring to her as "the love of my life" and "my soulmate."
"I don't want anyone else. That's my woman, that's my soulmate," Discipline stated, hinting that a proposal could be imminent. He noted that their on-screen roles as lovers in EastEnders, which concluded over a decade ago, may have laid the groundwork for their current relationship. "We were boyfriend and girlfriend in the show so you build up some kind of rapport. Maybe underlying there was some kind of chemistry there, but yeah in the last year or so it's really gone up a notch," he explained.
McGarty, best known for her portrayal of Whitney Dean, was a prominent character on EastEnders from 2008 until her departure in 2024, with a brief return earlier this year. Discipline played Tyler Moon, the on-screen brother of Anthony Moon, from 2011 to 2013. Their characters' storyline involved significant drama and trauma before Tyler's exit from Albert Square.
McGarty recently attended the opening night of "From The Heart" at London's Garrick Theatre, a show celebrating the work of Oscar-winning lyricist Don Black. The event featured performances of Black's songs from various film, theatre, and television projects, including a mash-up of James Bond themes and the EastEnders theme tune sung by McGarty. Surprise appearances included Michael Ball performing "Love Changes Everything."
This potential engagement follows McGarty's previous engagement to Irish guitarist David Bracken, which ended amicably less than a year prior. She also faced rumors of a romance with rapper Aitch after their appearance on the reality show "I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!" McGarty had previously dated other EastEnders actors, including Matt Lapinskas, who played Tyler's on-screen brother, and Max Bowden, who portrayed Ben Mitchell.
