Earl Spencer Urges Public Discussion on Princess Diana's Truths

Columnist Amanda Platell has drawn upon her personal experience of sibling loss to empathize with Earl Spencer's feelings following the death of his sister, Princess Diana. Platell, who lost her own brother, Michael, at age 37, suggests that Earl Spencer, who was 33 when Diana died, should feel empowered to speak his truth about her.

Platell stated, "As he knows, as do I and everyone who has cherished and lost a sibling, fraternal grief knows no end." She highlighted the profound impact of such losses, noting that Diana died in a car crash, while her own brother succumbed to a short battle with cancer.

In her commentary, Platell reflects on the sensitive nature of grief and the importance of public figures sharing their experiences. She mentioned that, according to Earl Spencer, the Royal Palace denied his request to play Mozart's Requiem at Diana's funeral, a piece of music he and his sisters knew she had always wished to be played for her. Platell described this alleged denial as causing significant hurt, emphasizing that "the little details cause the most hurt."
