Earl Spencer Claims Palace is 'Gaslighting' Over Diana Funeral Accounts
Charles Spencer alleges King Charles told him to 'forget' Princess Diana soon after her death and disputes the Palace's questioning of his memory.
Earl Spencer stated he is being "gaslit" by the Palace regarding claims made in his new book, which is being serialized in the Daily Mail. He alleges that his brother, then Prince Charles, told him days after Princess Diana's death, "Rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough."
Spencer also recounted an argument with Charles, wherein the Earl suggested his discomfort with his nephews, Princes William and Harry, walking behind their mother's coffin during the funeral procession. The Palace has questioned the veracity of Earl Spencer's account, with a spokesman suggesting that "fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory." Allies of the King have reportedly criticized Spencer's account by remarking on the "reliability and morality of a much-married man like Spencer."
