Earl Spencer Claims King Charles Expressed Elation After Diana's Death
Diana's brother alleges King Charles described himself as 'giddily elated' in a phone call shortly after the Princess of Wales's death, according to upcoming book extracts.
Fresh claims have emerged from Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, alleging that then-Prince Charles sounded "giddily elated" during a phone call following the death of the Princess of Wales. Spencer details the conversation in his upcoming book, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," with extracts published by the Daily Mail.
According to the extract, Spencer claimed Charles sounded like a "lottery winner" during the call. Spencer wrote, "I suspect the Prince's first reaction must have been to think more of how this event might free him to marry the woman he loved, rather than appreciating the loss of one he did not."
This latest assertion follows a previous claim by Earl Spencer that the then-Prince Charles remarked, referring to Diana, "we'll forget her soon enough" days after her passing.
Buckingham Palace issued a strong rebuttal to the earlier statement, stating, "His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss."
