Eagles Urged to Address Jalen Hurts Medical Situation Publicly

The Philadelphia Eagles' front office is being urged to publicly address the ongoing questions surrounding quarterback Jalen Hurts' medical situation. The team's handling of the situation, marked by a series of conflicting reports, has fueled speculation and drawn criticism.

On October 4, Hurts reportedly sustained a cleat injury to his left calf against the Los Angeles Rams. He first sought medical attention on October 8, and an ultrasound in London on October 10 revealed a superficial blood clot. Doctors cleared him to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 11. The following day, Hurts participated fully in practice in preparation for the Eagles' game against the Carolina Panthers.

However, later that evening, a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in the blood clot. On October 15, the Eagles announced that Hurts would miss the Panthers game while doctors determined the appropriate course of treatment, stating his health and safety were the highest priority but offering no return timetable.

Further reports emerged that the Eagles did not initially plan to place Hurts on injured reserve, a move that would sideline him for at least four games, suggesting a belief he could return within a month. This stance was later reversed, and Hurts was placed on injured reserve.

By Monday, The Ringer reported that Hurts was expected to miss the remainder of the season after further evaluations revealed a more serious condition. In a joint statement, the Eagles and Hurts' agent confirmed he had been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning blood clots in both lungs. The statement indicated Hurts was on blood thinners and expected to have no long-term effects.

Adding to the confusion, a report surfaced suggesting doctors instructed Hurts not to sleep after discovering the clot in London due to a 36-hour period without rest before he played against the Jaguars. A clarification from Hurts' agent stated he was able to sleep upon rejoining the team and a room was set aside for him at the stadium.

These conflicting timelines and reports have led to criticism, with some suggesting medical malpractice or a prioritization of winning over player health. The lack of clear communication from the organization has intensified public scrutiny and debate among medical professionals and former players.

Calls for the Eagles to hold a press conference aim to provide clarity on the timeline of events, the medical decisions made, and the protocols followed. Proponents of this approach argue that such transparency is owed to Hurts, the team's fanbase, and the integrity of the organization, without necessarily disclosing all private medical details.
