Eagles Receiver DeVonta Smith Out for Sunday's Game Against Rams
The Philadelphia Eagles will be without key wide receiver DeVonta Smith due to a hamstring injury, a significant blow as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Rams.
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to face the Los Angeles Rams without one of their primary offensive weapons, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury. ESPN Eagles reporter Tim McManus reported that there is little optimism for Smith's return for Sunday's game.
Smith has missed practice this week with the injury, and the expectation is that he will be unable to play. This absence will be a notable challenge for quarterback Jalen Hurts, as Smith has emerged as the team's top receiver in their first season without A.J. Brown. Smith has recorded 19 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown so far this season.
The Eagles' receiving corps is further depleted by the absence of tight end Dallas Goedert, who is recovering from a sprained MCL. Potential replacements for Smith include veteran Dontayvion Wicks, who has nine receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown, and rookie Makai Lemon, who has seven receptions for 38 yards.
For the Rams, the Eagles' injury situation comes as a reprieve, as they are also managing their own personnel issues. The Rams will be without cornerback Jaylen Watson for an extended period due to a dislocated shoulder. Additionally, defensive star Aaron Donald has not practiced this week due to a back injury, and linebacker Nate Landman and nose tackle Poona Ford are also absent from practice.
On the offensive side, the Rams expect to have wide receiver Puka Nacua back for Sunday's game after a two-game absence. The Rams, under head coach Sean McVay, have a 1-6 record against the Eagles.
The game is scheduled to kick off Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
