Eagles Coach Sirianni Takes Blame for Late-Game Collapse Against Jaguars
Clock mismanagement and a missed field goal allowed Jacksonville to secure a last-second victory, leaving Philadelphia with a losing record in the NFC East.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni accepted responsibility for a costly decision that led to the team's 19-17 defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
The Eagles held a one-point lead with eight seconds remaining after a 48-yard field goal by Jake Elliott, but poor clock management and a subsequent kickoff return put the Jaguars in position for a game-winning 57-yard field goal by Cam Little as time expired.
"I didn’t make the right decision. I lost us that game," Sirianni stated after the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Jaguars' game-winning drive was set up by a 53-yard kickoff return by Ameer Abdullah, who advanced the ball across midfield after the Eagles failed to kick the ball into the end zone.
Earlier in the fourth quarter, Little had missed an extra point following a touchdown reception by Parker Washington. The missed kick was attributed to a high snap from fill-in long snapper Davon Hamilton, who was replacing the injured Ross Matiscik.
The Eagles were hampered by several absences, including running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was also ejected in the opening kickoff for an altercation with Jaguars defensive lineman Bryan Thomas, who was also disqualified.
Injuries also affected the Jaguars, with left tackle Anton Harrison and cornerback Montaric Brown leaving the game with knee and hamstring issues, respectively.
Jacksonville also missed an opportunity to extend their lead in the fourth quarter, failing to score from the 1-yard line after drawing multiple penalties, including two for delay of game.
