E-bike Rider Critically Injured in Brooklyn Hit-and-Run
A 33-year-old cyclist was struck by a Hyundai Elantra that then fled the scene, according to police.
An e-bike rider is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights.
The 33-year-old cyclist was traveling south in the right lane when a white 2026 Hyundai Elantra, which had been in the center lane, merged and collided with him. The impact threw the rider onto the pavement, causing head trauma.
Emergency services transported the injured rider to Kings County Hospital Center, where he remained in critical condition as of Wednesday. The driver of the Hyundai Elantra fled the scene, heading south on Nostrand Avenue. Authorities have not yet apprehended the driver.
This incident follows several recent e-bike-related fatalities in New York City. In early October, a 50-year-old e-bike rider was fatally struck by a pickup truck driver in the Bronx. The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and was not charged. Earlier in September, a delivery woman was killed in Herald Square when her e-bike was hit by a dump truck, which then drove away. The driver in that incident remained at large, according to reports.
