Dyfed-Powys Police Hit by Cyber Attack, Staff Data Potentially Compromised

Dyfed-Powys Police has confirmed it was the victim of a cyber attack identified on September 14, which disrupted non-emergency systems and may have resulted in staff information being accessed or compromised. The force stated that its response to emergency incidents has not been affected, and telephone services remain operational.

The breach was reported to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). While the investigation has so far found no evidence that personal data belonging to members of the public was compromised, the force is continuing to assess whether any information relating to its staff may have been accessed. Appropriate advice will be provided to colleagues if necessary.

Online and email contact services were unavailable for a period but have since been restored. The investigation is being managed by Tarian, a regional organized crime unit specializing in cyber crime, with support from cybersecurity specialists. Precautionary measures have been implemented across the force's systems while the investigation proceeds and services are safely restored.

Dyfed-Powys Police, which covers central and west Wales, has approximately 1,300 officers across about 40 stations. The force has assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to protect its information and maintain system security. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
