‘Dutton Ranch’ Season 2 Release Date Pushed to 2027 Amid Showrunner Change
Fans will have to wait longer for new episodes of the Yellowstone spin-off, which is also getting a new showrunner.
The second season of Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" spin-off "Dutton Ranch" is expected to premiere in 2027, with production slated to begin in early 2027. The delay comes as the series prepares to welcome a new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell, who joined the team ahead of Season 2. Chad Feehan, the showrunner for the first season, departed the series shortly before its premiere.
Season 1 of "Dutton Ranch" concluded with its ninth episode, "El Padrino," leaving several plotlines unresolved. Viewers are eager to learn the fate of characters like Beth, Rip, and Carter, as well as the ongoing developments in Rio Paloma, Texas. The season finale saw Beth and Rip fearing for Carter's safety after his kidnapping, while Beulah and Oreana grieved Rob-Will’s death. Joaquin was left to confront the consequences of his father Mariano's return.
Despite the anticipation for new episodes, "Dutton Ranch" will not be airing new content this weekend. Reruns of its sister series, "Marshals," are available on CBS. "Marshals" Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, October 4, 2025, on CBS and Paramount+.
Paramount+ officially renewed "Dutton Ranch" for a second season on June 24, prior to the airing of its eighth episode. The renewal followed strong viewership numbers, with the series amassing 12.9 million global viewers within seven days of its premiere, marking the largest launch for an original series in Paramount+ history. Its debut on Paramount Network also garnered 2.9 million total viewers, making it the biggest cable series premiere since 2023.
Kelly Reilly, who stars as Beth Dutton, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter in July that filming for Season 2 is expected to commence in early 2027. She noted that the writers' room would begin work on the season significantly earlier, with approximately six months dedicated to scripting.
Amidst rumors of a feud between "Yellowstone" star Cole Hauser and creator Taylor Sheridan, sources indicate that Hauser's character, Rip Wheeler, is not leaving "Dutton Ranch." Hauser also serves as an executive producer on the series, and the spin-off was developed with the intention of continuing the storylines of Beth, Rip, and Carter.
Discussions about a potential crossover episode between "Dutton Ranch" and "Marshals" are ongoing. Luke Grimes, who stars as Kayce Dutton in "Yellowstone" and "Marshals," has expressed openness to the idea, noting the familial connection between Beth and Kayce. "It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point," Grimes told TV Insider. "Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate."
Fans can rewatch Season 1 of "Dutton Ranch" on Paramount+. The streaming service offers two subscription plans: Essential and Premium. Paramount+ content is also accessible through Hulu and Prime Video by adding the Paramount+ subscription.
