Duncan Sheik, ‘Barely Breathing’ Singer, Dies at 56

Duncan Sheik, the Grammy-winning musician best known for his 1996 hit "Barely Breathing," has died at the age of 56. His death was confirmed on Friday, following cardiac arrest.

Sheik's final public appearance was on April 12, 2026, at the Olivier Awards in London. He was seen on the red carpet wearing a gray jacket, a coordinating tie, black shoes, and a wide-brimmed gray hat, with his hands in his pockets.

In the week leading up to his death, Sheik shared a black-and-white photo of himself on Instagram, wearing glasses and a golf cap. The post did not include a caption.

A day prior to that, he posted a photograph of a city view from a hotel room, accompanied by the lyrics, "The sun it is leaving At the end of the evening In an airless room, some might assume."
