Dubois and Wardley Set for Rematch in High-Stakes WBO Title Bout
Heavyweight rivals Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley will clash again for the WBO title just five months after Dubois's previous stoppage victory.
Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley are set to face off in a highly anticipated rematch for the WBO World Heavyweight Championship at the O2 Arena. This bout comes just five months after their initial contest in May 2026, where Dubois secured a stoppage victory in the 11th round to claim the title.
Fabio Wardley, who entered the first fight undefeated, had a strong start, knocking Dubois down twice in the early rounds. However, Dubois recovered and went on to inflict significant damage, leading to the fight's stoppage. Wardley is now aiming to reclaim the title in this second encounter.
Speaking at the final press conference, Wardley expressed his readiness, stating, "Surprisingly, I feel great. It's one of those things, especially when you suffer a loss, it's never part of the plan. It's never what you want, but I think the thought of it is actually worse than the reality." He added his determination to "right those wrongs."
Daniel Dubois, also speaking at the press conference, conveyed a sense of preparedness and ambition. "Feeling stronger, feeling grounded and ready to go out there and do my job. Another one. Get through this and do bigger and better things," he said. Dubois emphasized his focus, adding, "I take every fight serious. Every challenge 100 per cent. So I'm just zoned in to go out there and perform."
The atmosphere at the O2 Arena is reported to be electric, with a large crowd in attendance. There is a palpable sense of anticipation for the fight, with fans expecting an explosive contest. It remains unclear who holds the stronger fan support heading into the bout, with discussions and debates heard among attendees.
Journalist Jeff Powell MBE, in a piece written earlier in the week, reflected on the broader landscape of British heavyweight boxing, noting its rise to prominence. The UK scene is highlighted as having taken over from previous US dominance in the division.
