Driver Jailed for 115 MPH Chase with Child in Car

Johnpaul Allen, 32, has been jailed for six months and banned from driving for 16 months after admitting to dangerous driving. He was apprehended by Nottinghamshire Police on May 25 following a pursuit that reached speeds of 115 mph, with a child present in the vehicle.

Allen was first noticed by an unmarked police car on the A60 between Worksop and Cuckney, Nottinghamshire, when he sped past at high velocity. A chase ensued, with officers reaching up to 120 mph to keep pace with Allen's Range Rover Sport. Dashcam footage revealed Allen weaving through traffic and narrowly avoiding a head-on collision by driving on the wrong side of the road.

He eventually slowed near speed cameras in Cuckney. Later, he was observed driving at 70 mph in a 30 mph zone in Warsop. Officers stopped Allen shortly after 9:30 p.m. Bodycam footage showed Allen, who was shirtless and wearing sliders, admitting to having consumed alcohol before driving.

Allen pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court. PC Ky Kirk of Nottinghamshire Police stated that Allen was unaware he had passed a police vehicle when he made his initial dangerous maneuver. Kirk emphasized the risks Allen posed to other road users and the child in his car. The court sentenced Allen to six months imprisonment and a 16-month driving ban.
