An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Biddeford, Maine, resulted in the fatal shooting of a driver on Monday morning. Authorities stated the driver attempted to accelerate his vehicle towards ICE agents at an intersection shortly after 7:15 a.m.
Witnesses described seeing officers draw their weapons as the car appeared to move directly toward them. "The car was put into drive and was trying to hit the ICE officer," said witness Lucas Scott, who reported hearing approximately four shots fired in response. Another witness, Daniel Boucher, described seeing the driver exit the vehicle bleeding from the head and say, "I tried to stop."
Social media footage from the scene showed a person lying on the ground near a vehicle, with a visible bullet hole in the driver's side windshield. Investigators were observed at the location following the incident.
Locals have reported an increase in ICE activity in Biddeford in recent weeks. One resident, Larry Humiston, told the Portland Press Herald that he had witnessed ICE agents pursuing individuals working on a nearby roof about one or two weeks prior, during which time the individuals fled, leaving their equipment behind.
